Lucia is a bright and determined 20-year-old whose journey took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in early September. Since then, she has undergone a major colon resection and several procedures, moving through each step with courage well beyond her years. Most recently, she began chemotherapy and will continue treatments every other week for six months.
Throughout this challenging period, Lucia’s positivity has been extraordinary. Even as she navigates early side effects of chemo, she continues to stay fully engaged with life by spending time with her parents, younger brother and loving extended family, staying on campus with friends in the moments she feels well enough, working out at the gym almost every day and staying enrolled half-time in classes at the University of Oregon. Her resilience and the strength of her spirit have inspired everyone around her.
Lucia’s mom, a nurse and her primary caregiver, along with her dad, are committed to being by her side for every appointment, treatment, and recovery day. Financial assistance will help support medical expenses, Lucia’s evolving needs, and the lost wages required to ensure her parents can remain present throughout her healing journey.
“Lucia” means “Queen of Light” and her light shines brighter than ever as she meets each obstacle with hope, bravery, and heart. Her family is deeply grateful for the support surrounding her during this difficult but hopeful chapter.
