Chris was impacted by a mass reduction at her tech company in June. As their family’s primary earner, Chris was working hard to find a new role in a difficult job market when she was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma breast cancer in October. Chris’s tumor was large and aggressive, and within three weeks she underwent a double mastectomy to remove it.
Testing revealed that Chris’s cancer has both extremely high growth and recurrence rates, so she is currently undergoing three months of chemotherapy and will receive six weeks of daily radiation after that. During treatment, she remains unable to return to her job search.
Chris is fighting hard to stay present and healthy for her husband and three children ages 5, 9, and 13, but the financial stress weighs heavily. Her husband Tony has been a dedicated special education teacher in Springfield and Eugene public schools for 12 years, but their household relies on two incomes to support their family of five.
